The Germany national team failed to make it out of the group stage for the second World Cup in a row.
In the last round of the group stage, the Germany National Eleven beat Costa Rica (4-2), but due to Spain’s defeat by Japan (1-2) finished in 3rd place.
The Japan team took the first place with 6 points, and Spain qualified for the playoffs from 2nd place with 4 points.
Germany also earned 4 points, but lost to the Spain team on tiebreakers. Costa Rica took the last place with 3 points.
At the 2018 World Cup, Germany also failed to make it out of the group. That time, they played in the same group with South Korea, Sweden and Mexico.
In 2014, the Germany team won the tournament, and three times before that – at the 2010 World Cup, 2006 World Cup and 2002 World Cup – they finished in the TOP 3.
