Former Manchester United midfielder Ryan Giggs gave a speech during the court session.
In April 2021, the Welshman was charged with attacking two women. In November 2020, he allegedly inflicted injuries to 36-year-old Kate and attacked her younger sister, 20-year-old Emma, at his home in Worsley. He was also accused of behavior involving coercion and control from December 2017 to November 2020.
During the court session, Giggs’ lawyer Chris Daw brought up Ryan’s football career.
– You have played more than 1000 matches in 24 years. How many times have you been sent off?
– Only once. In the Wales vs Norway match in 2001, Giggs said.
Daw clarified whether he got the red card because of aggressive behavior. Giggs said that he was sent off for two yellow cards.
– Have you ever been insulted by fans?
– Every week. This is an inevitable part of a footballer’s life, Giggs answered.
At the beginning of the cross-examination, prosecutor Peter Wright noted that there is a big difference between how a person behaves in his personal life and how he behaves in his professional activity.
