The Sweden national football team will not play with the Russian one, despite the decision of FIFA.
“Our viewpoint has not changed. The situation in Ukraine has not changed because of this FIFA statement, so we have not changed our mindset.
We want to talk to the teams of Poland and the Czech Republic and together tell FIFA our opinion.
We expected a tougher stance from FIFA. It is clear that FIFA’s attitude does not suit us. We are waiting for further verdicts from FIFA.
I believe that FIFA will not punish us for this viewpoint. If this [awarding Sweden a forfeit defeat] happens, then FIFA will make a fatal flaw,” said Karl-Erik Nilsson, the president of the Swedish Football Union.
Since February 24, Russia has been conducting a security operation in Ukraine.
