Barcelona wants Gerard Piqué and Jordi Alba to leave the club in the winter.

In August, Barcelona president Joan Laporta met with Piqué and Sergio Busquets to ask for help. Despite the activation of economic tools, the Catalan club still had problems with financial fair play.

In this regard, Laporta asked Piqué and Busquets, the highest paid players of the team, to adapt salaries to the current realities of the club. The players were ready to help Barça. They even agreed to sign new contracts with them. Laporta was very pleased with the results of the negotiations.

However, a few days later, when Barça had to sign new contracts with Piqué and Busquets on agreed terms, the players’ representatives refused to do so. As a result, Barcelona had to sell Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Laporta was very annoyed and disappointed because Barça had to pay Piqué, Busquets and Jordi Alba about 200 million for three over the next year and a half. Hence, the president of Barça aims to get rid of these players in the coming months, Diario Sport reports.

In the case of Busquets, this will be impossible, since his contract expires on June 30, 2023. The midfielder intends to leave Barça as a free agent.

The club will do its best to get rid of Piqué and Alba, whose contracts are valid until the summer of 2024, in winter, but the president of Barça and other club leaders understand that this is a great challenge.
