During the regular season, each club will play one home game and one road game with each of the opponents. There are a total of 38 rounds consisting of ten games, or 380 matches in the tournament. The schedule and results of all matches, as well as player stats, can be found on the official website of Serie A.
Tournament policy
The regular season determines the champion, the teams participating in the European Competitions of the next season and the teams leaving Serie A. The tournament placing is related to the team's performance in the championship. A team scores three points for a win, one for a draw, and zero for a defeat. Based on the results of 38 rounds, the points scored are summed up, and the teams are placed from highest to lowest total score.
In case of equality of points, there are five factors that allow choosing the winner:
- head-to-head results, i.e. the number of points scored;
- goal difference in head-to-head duels;
- goal difference in the championship;
- the number of goals scored;
- the draw.
The factors are listed in descending order. First, head-to-head results are considered, in case of the same result, for example, two draws or one victory each, other criteria are taken into account.
Teams from 18th to 20th places get relegated. The teams at 1st and 2nd places of Serie B, as well as the winner of the play-offs between the 3rd and 4th team of Serie B take their place. Six clubs from Italy qualify for the European competitions. The teams from 1st to 4th place of the tournament will qualify for the Champion League group stage. The 5th club will play in the Europa League, and the 6th team will play in the Conference League.
Favourites/outsiders
The 2021/2022 season promises to be tense in terms of the fight for the championship title. The list of top favourites includes Juventus. The club from Turin has missed out on the title of Italian champion only once over the last ten seasons. It happened in the 2020/2021 season. In the championship that has just started, the list of favourites in the fight for the title of the best club in Italy includes:
- Juventus;
- Napoli;
- Lazio;
- Inter;
- Atalanta;
- Milan;
- Roma.
Only two of the seven clubs have no coaching changes. Gasperini retained his position as head coach of Atalanta and Pioli at Milan. Juventus returned Massimiliano Allegri, and Inter took Simone Inzaghi from Lazio. Now Maurizio Sarri trains the roman Lazio. Luciano Spalletti came to Napoli, and Roma was headed by Jose Mourinho.
Bookmakers consider Inter to be the main rival of Juventus in the fight for the championship title. It will be difficult for the Black and Blues to defend the title. They have been left without a head coach and two important players: Hakimi and Lukaku.
The struggle to keep the position in the elite division will be no less fierce than the fight for the championship. The main candidates for elimination are clubs that have gained promotion: Salernitana, Empoli and Venezia. The Newly promoted Serie A will be accompanied by Spezia, Genoa and Cagliari.
Transfers
The transfer fee of the Italian Championship is €4.90 billion. It is difficult to predict the game without studying changes in the club line-up. The main stars who left Serie A and joined the Italian championship are listed below:
- Inter: Lukaku and Hakimi left;
- Milan: Donnarumma left, Maignan and Tomori joined the club;
- Juventus: Ronaldo left, McKennie and Jorge joined the club;

These are the major transfer changes in Serie A clubs. Main news of the league is available on the Serie A official website and club accounts.
Main betting trends
The Italian championship is renowned for its reliable defensive play.
